JOB TITLE: Human Resources Technician I (Employee
Relations)

JOB OBJECTIVE:
To provide technical and clerical support for the Human Resources
Department Employee Relations Division.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
Receives general supervision from the Human Resources Analyst II
(Employee Relations).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintains hard copy and computer files
and records of created positions, reclassification requests, maintenance audits,
final disposition of actions, and other related documentation.
2. Responds to requests for salary
information from other organizations by completing written surveys and
providing information by telephone.
3. Prepares regular and special narrative
and statistical reports, utilizing a microcomputer with spreadsheet software.
4. Compiles salary and benefit survey
results; distributes survey results.
5. Compiles and distributes the annual
Compensation Manual.
6. Maintains records and materials regarding
salary data, labor negotiations, and special projects.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Processes grievances and disciplinary
action appeal hearing requests by scheduling hearings and creating and
maintaining files.
2. Researches information and compiles
data concerning possible changes to human resources programs (i.e.,
compensation, leave).
3. Conducts file searches regarding EEOC
charges.
4. Performs other related duties as
required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Good knowledge of standard office practices and
procedures.
Good knowledge of hard copy and computer filing and
record‑keeping systems.
Good knowledge of computer fundamentals and business
software, including spreadsheet and word processing software.
Some knowledge of human resources principles and
practices.
Some knowledge of research methods and techniques.
Familiarity with basic statistics.
Skill in the operation of a microcomputer,
utilizing spreadsheet and word processing software.
Ability to research information regarding
personnel policies and procedures.
Ability to compile statistical data.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
Ability to maintain hard copy and computer files
and records.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally
and in writing.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE
AND TRAINING:
Completion of two (2)
years college coursework in Human Resources Administration, Business
Administration, Psychology, or a related area; at least one (1) year of
experience in a human resources department setting; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides
the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
