JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Equipment Operator IV (Parks and Recreation
- Operations and Improvement Development)

JOB OBJECTIVE: To operate medium and heavy equipment in the
preparation and maintenance of roads and grounds at City parks and recreation
facilities.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the
Parks Maintenance and Development Foreman.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Operates medium and heavy equipment to
excavate, load and transport dirt, gravel and other materials, or to fine grade
and compact dirt or other materials.
2. Checks job sites for obstructions, such
as above and below ground utility lines, and other structures before operating
equipment.
3. Directs the work activities of other
operators or laborers in the absence of a supervisor.
4. Makes golf course improvements such as
constructing greens and tee boxes and improvements to athletic fields.
SECONDARY
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops and maintains access roads and
surfaces prone to erosion; regrades and spreads dirt on surfaces after settling
has occurred to facilitate drainage.
2. Notifies spotters or truck drivers of
proper placement for dumping loads to ensure most effective spreading or compacting
of dirt or other materials.
3. Informs supervisor of equipment
breakdown or other problems.
4. Maintains records of equipment
maintenance, including approximate amounts of fluids, such as oil or grease
needed, and hours of operation since previous servicing.
5. Maintains job site records of
materials, equipment usage and man hours.
6. Performs other related duties as
required.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs work of routine difficulty
in operating a variety of heavy equipment for developing and maintaining roads
and special surfaces at various City owned properties and facilities.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Good knowledge of techniques of
loading and transporting heavy equipment.
Good knowledge of maintenance
requirements of assigned equipment.
Some knowledge of the
characteristics of various types of soils and other materials.
Skill in the operation of medium and heavy
earth moving equipment; such as bulldozer, front-end loader, and backhoe.
Ability to follow simple oral and written
instructions.
Ability to perform manual labor.
Ability to maintain simple records.
Ability to locate assigned work sites from
instructions and maps.
Ability to notice obstructions, such as utility
lines, and unusual problems before starting equipment operations.
Ability to direct activities of assigned work
crews.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Completion of grade school; at least one
year of experience in the operation of heavy and medium earth moving
equipment; OR any equivalent combination
of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and
abilities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT: Must possess or be able to obtain a valid
Arkansas Class A (Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License within ninety (90) days
of employment and maintain licensure for duration of employment in this
position.
