JOB TITLE:  Equipment Operator I

 

MAINTENANCE REVIEW DATE:  January 1997

JOB OBJECTIVE:  To operate various trucks to transport equipment, materials and work crews to work sites and to perform manual tasks as required.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Receives direct supervision from Crew Leader, Equipment Operator IV, Equipment Operator V, or Leader.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1.         Operates light and medium duty trucks and trailers to transport light and medium equipment and materials to assigned work sites and dumping areas.

 

2.         Checks assigned equipment daily to assure that tire pressure, fuel, oil and other fluid levels are sufficient; adds oil, fuel or other fluids.

 

3.         Notifies supervisor of equipment malfunctions and needed maintenance; transports equipment to maintenance shop upon receiving completed work orders.

 

4.         Operates hand and tractor mounted mowing equipment to cut grass or brush from ditches.

 

5.         Operates hand tools to clean ditches, load materials onto trucks, dig materials from street areas being repaired and to unload and spread repair materials.

 

6.         Serves as backup to Leader or Crew Leader by transporting crews to work sites, directing crews and completing daily work sheets.

 

7.         Performs unskilled laboring tasks.

 

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

Some knowledge of maintenance requirements for light and medium duty trucks.

 

Skill in the operation of light and medium trucks and trailers.

 

Skill in the operation of hand tools.

 

Skill in the operation of hand and tractor mounted mowing equipment.

 

Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.

 

Ability to perform manual labor in all weather conditions.

 

Ability to locate assigned work sites from instructions or maps.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

 

At least one year of experience in the operation of light and medium duty trucks and trailers; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:

 

Must possess a valid Arkansas Class A or B (Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment; must obtain a valid Arkansas Class A (Commercial Vehicle) Driver’s License with X endorsement within sixty (60) days of employment and maintain licensure for duration of employment in this position.
