JOB TITLE: Electrical Inspection Supervisor

JOB
OBJECTIVE: To assign and direct the inspection and code
enforcement activities of electrical inspectors; to review plans of proposed
commercial buildings for conformance with electrical codes.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Permits and
Inspection Administrator.
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Assigns
Electrical Inspectors to an area of the City for routine and special
inspections.
2. Reviews
plans and specifications for proposed commercial buildings to determine
conformance to City Electrical Codes; approves plans which conform with codes
or notes deficiencies on nonconforming plans.
3. Inspects
buildings to interpret Electrical Codes for unusual situations or to review
violations found by inspectors; performs routine electrical inspections as
required.
4. Answers
questions and provides technical information regarding electrical codes and
enforcement procedures to inspectors, contractors, builders, and citizens.
5. Maintains
daily logs listing numbers and locations of inspections and any violations
found; maintains records of construction projects approved to receive
electrical service including location, type of service, and the utility company
employee notified.
6. Reviews
code violation cases with the supervisor before issuance of a warrant or
citation; issues approved warrants or citations to persons responsible for code
violations.
7. Prepares
monthly and annual reports of electrical inspection and code enforcement
activity.
8. Develops
and administers licensing examinations for electrical specialty areas required
by City Ordinance and excluded from State of Arkansas Licensing Programs;
maintains files of information or test results and issues licenses to persons
passing examinations.
9. Reviews
examination applications to ensure that each applicant has the required
experience and/or training to qualify for a license.
10. Notifies
persons holding City electrical licenses annually of license renewal
requirements; issues new licenses to persons meeting renewal requirements.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintains
cross-referenced files of electrical permits.
2. Maintains
a current informational listing of licensed electricians by classification or
specialty area.
3. Investigates
the scene of suspicious fires to determine the probability of electrical
malfunctions causing the fire as requested by Fire Department Inspectors.
4. Recommends
changes in Electrical Codes and/or enforcement procedures to the supervisor.
5. Performs
other related duties as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides general supervision to the
Electrical Inspectors.

REQUIRED
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
Skill in the operation of electrical test meters.
Considerable
knowledge
of City of Little Rock Electrical Codes and Ordinances.
Considerable
knowledge
of the principles of electricity.
Considerable
knowledge
of procedures and materials used in the installation and maintenance of
electrical systems.
Ability to communicate tactfully
and effectively with inspectors, contractors, builders, and citizens.
Ability to maintain detailed
records.
Ability to prepare regular and
special reports from daily records.

ACCEPTABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of
a standard vocational technical school course in Electrical Systems; at
least four (4) years of experience in installing and maintaining electrical
systems, or at least two (2) years of experience in electrical systems
inspections and code enforcement; at least one (1) year of supervisory
experience; OR any equivalent
combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge,
skills, and abilities.
ADDITIONAL
REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess
or be able to obtain certification as an Electrical Inspector within 12 months
of date of employment and maintain during employment.
Must possess
or be able to obtain a valid Arkansas Class "D" vehicle operator's
license within 90 days of employment and maintain during employment.
Must possess State of Arkansas Master Electrician’s
License.
