JOB TITLE:     Crew Leader (Public Works – Street and Drain Maintenance and Storm Drain Maintenance)

 

MAINTENANCE REVIEW DATE:  January 1997

 

ORG/POS #:  2210/2199, 2220/2286

 

JOB OBJECTIVE:  To provide direct supervision to a crew of workers engaged in the maintenance of City streets, drainage ditches, weed control, and the repair of corporation cuts.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Receives immediate supervision from the Foreman I (Streets).

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1.         Receives work orders from the Foreman I office detailing the type of maintenance required, location, and crew members.

 

2.         Locates crew members and ensures all report to work site.

 

3.         Selects materials and tools needed to perform work assignments.

 

4.         Operates light trucks and  equipment to haul materials, such as asphalt, chat, sand, and tack to work sites.

 

6.         Directs and assists crew in the repair and maintenance of streets, drainage ditches, weed control and corporation cuts.

 

7.         Uses radio and telephone to inform Foreman I of any problems at the work site.

 

8.         Prepares a daily work report including work completed, mileage of truck, equipment used, time spent completing each work assignment, equipment hours, and amount of material used for each work assignment; submits daily work report to Foreman I.

 

9.         Returns all equipment; returns keys to the Foreman I office.

 

10.       Operates a fuel truck to deliver fuel to work site.

 

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.         Performs other related duties as required.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Provides direct supervision to Equipment Operators I and Laborers.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  Performs tasks of routine difficulty in the working supervision of a crew engaged in the maintenance of City streets, drainage ditches, weed control, and repair of corporation cuts.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

Some knowledge of the materials and methods of street maintenance involving such duties as minor asphalt repair, weed control and cleaning drainage ditches.

 

Some knowledge of the City streets.

 

Some knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work.

 

Skill in the operation of various hand and paver equipment, including air compressor, jackhammer, and hand asphalt roller.

 

Skill in the use of power driven and hand tools.

 

Skill in the operation of a dump truck.

 

Ability to locate designated sites on a local map.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

 

At least one (1) year of experience in the construction trade; at least one (1) year of lead worker experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT: 

 

Must possess a valid Arkansas Class A or B (Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment; must obtain a valid Arkansas Class A (Commercial Vehicle) Driver’s License with X endorsement within sixty (60) days of employment and maintain licensure for duration of employment in this position.
