JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Crew Leader (Control Devices)

JOB
OBJECTIVE: To provide direct supervision to a
crew of maintenance workers involved in the installation, repair, and
maintenance of traffic control, informational signs, street striping, and
markings.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Foreman I (Traffic).
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Operates
hand guided spray paint or plastic striping equipment to paint crosswalks,
streets, or parking lot markings.
2. Ensures
the correct application of marking material for street striping by operating
panel controls on truck mounted street striping equipment.
3. Cleans
and performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; repairs and
maintains spray guns, pumps, and compressors on street striping equipment.
4. Provides
working supervision to an assigned crew engaged in installation, repair, or
maintenance of sign and street markings.
5. Assembles
and installs signs, cold plastic arrows, and legends with hand tools; removes
brush or other obstructions around signs.
6. Removes
obsolete street markings by use of a hand guided grinder; cleans signs with a
sign washing machine.
7. Determines
the priority of daily work orders for the most efficient use of time and
equipment.
8. Ensures
that materials and equipment required for daily assignments are loaded on
assigned vehicles.
9. Completes
work orders on each project listing time, equipment, and material used;
prepares a daily report listing projects completed, material used, and time for
crew members and equipment.
10. Maintains
maintenance records on assigned vehicles; delivers vehicles to City Garage for
required maintenance or repairs.
11. Notifies
Foreman of accidents involving crew members, equipment malfunction or members
of the public having complaints about sign placement.

12. Paints
traffic islands, curbs, and related structures with a hand brush as required.
13. Serves
as backup to the Traffic Sign Fabricator during inclement weather.
14. Serves
as backup to the Leader (Traffic) as required.

other related duties as required.

REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Good
knowledge
of the procedures and methods utlized in the installation and maintenance of
traffic control signs.
Good
knowledge
of the procedures and methods utilized in street striping.
Skill in the operation of medium
duty manual transmission vehicles.
Skill in the operation of hand
and power tools.
Skill in the operation of hand
guided and truck mounted paint and striping equipment.
Ability to locate and follow sign
and street marking standards or specifications from technical manuals.
Ability to locate specific
intersections and streets from maps.
Ability to read and follow
technical manual instructions for repair and maintenance of striping equipment.
Ability to provide working
supervision to a crew of Sign Maintenance Workers.
Ability to maintain simple records.
Ability to lift and carry weights
of up to 75 pounds.
ACCEPTABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Completion of grade school or
related vocational technical school training; at least one (1) year of
experience in the operation of hand and power tools; at least one (1)
year of experience as Lead Worker; OR
any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the
required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
ADDITIONAL
REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess
a valid Arkansas Class A (Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before
employment; must possess an X endorsement within 90 days of employment; must
maintain licensure with endorsement for duration of employment in this
position.
