JOB TITLE: Court Clerk – Senior (Traffic Court)

JOB
OBJECTIVE: To provide clerical support for the
preparation and maintenance of the court docket, case materials for DWI defendants,
and the issuance of warrants and subpoenas for defendants to appear in
Municipal Court.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Chief Court Clerk.
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Prepares
traffic citations for entry into the database by separating Driving While
Intoxicated (D.W.I.) citations issued
from routine traffic violations issued.
2. Collects
all traffic citations issued by the Police Department.
3. Computes
traffic ticket fines and additional charges; enters correct amount on the
ticket for collection.
4. Prepares
final disposition and charge reports for arrest tracking for ACIC.
5. Reviews
all ticket entries of assigned employees for accuracy.
6. Operates
a microcomputer, utilizing database software to enter D.W.I.’s and criminal
violations.
7. Obtains
arrest packets; separates packet materials and completes required documents for
plea arraignment.
8. Operates
a computer terminal to update all court dispositions.
9. Notifies defendants of court dates by
correspondence.
10. Directs the work activities and monitors
the performance of assigned employees.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Establishes files and maintains confidential records of all court proceedings, first offense alcohol violations, alcohol statistical case data, and disposition of cases.
2. Monitors
Judge's docket sheets to ensure correct docket entries.
3. Issues warrants for the arrest of persons forfeiting bonds, notifies appropriate bondsman.
4. Operates
microcomputer to check City and State driving record on each pending case;
obtains records of all prior violations; certifies convictions and waiver
records for other jurisdictions as requested.

5. Prepares
forms and documents for committing defendants to jail; collects fees for appeal
to Circuit Court.
6. Provides
assistance to defendants regarding application for restricted drivers' licenses
and the updating of temporary licenses.
7. Prepares
formal judgment forms and certifies copies of judgments for use by state
agencies, other courts, attorneys, and the City Attorney's Office.
8. Provides
information to defendants, witnesses, attorneys, Family Service Agency
representatives, and members of the public who call or visit the court
regarding court procedures; directs individuals to the appropriate staff or
agency.
9. Transmits
court-ordered reinstatements to driver control to release suspensions on
failure-to-appear tickets.
10. Prepares
all materials required for transfer cases to other courts, judges, orders, and
felony commitment papers.
11. Obtains
files for each court proceeding and organizes case materials in proper docket
order.
12. Prepares
court orders for release of impounded vehicles.
13. Collects
fees for preparation of records, bonds, and notices filed.
14. Issues
warrants of arrest for defendants failing to appear for court appearances,
individuals failing to report for work release and supervised probationers.
15. Performs
other related duties as required.

Provides general supervision to the Office
Assistant’s II.

ACCEPTABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of
high school or a vocational technical school; at least two (2) years of
experience in office management or as a legal secretary; at least one
(1) year of microcomputer use; at least one (1) year of supervisory
experience OR any equivalent combination
of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and
abilities.
ADDITIONAL
REQUIREMENT:
Must possess certification
as a Court Clerk or obtain certification within three (3) years of employment
in this position and maintain certification for the duration of employment in
this position.
