JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Court Administrator (Traffic)
MAINTENANCE REVIEW DATE: April 1999

JOB OBJECTIVE: To ensure that daily operations of the
Municipal Court are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general direction from the
Municipal Judge.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Assigns and reviews activities of the
Municipal Court staff to ensure that all materials required for court
proceedings are assembled properly; contacts outside agencies to obtain
services of special court reporters and other special services such as foreign
language and sign language interpreters.
2. Determines budget needs and priorities
based on goals and objectives of the court; compiles tentative annual budget
figures for approval by the Municipal Judge.
3. Reviews monthly budget reports to
assure that budgeted amounts are not exceeded; prepares Appropriation Transfer
Requests (ATRs).
4. Requisitions or purchases needed
equipment and supplies; prepares purchasing specifications for special
equipment.
5. Maintains payroll and leave records for
court employees; prepares personnel status change forms and payroll sheets for
court employees.
6. Maintains the Department Internet Web
site; plans content; monitors Web site to identify and resolve performance
problems.
7. Provides assistance to the Municipal
Judge in the coordination of special programs, including the Campus
Court-Critical Choices program, by scheduling presentations, developing
materials, and other duties as assigned.
8. Writes and prepares narrative and
statistical reports; operates a microcomputer utilizing presentation,
spreadsheet, and word processing software.
SECONDARY
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Interviews and recommends qualified
applicants for court positions to the Judge; provides training and information
regarding procedures and court operations to court employees.
2. Researches and recommends special
projects and procedural changes required for court security and to improve the
efficiency of court operations.

3. Provides information and explains laws
and procedures to defendants, attorneys, witnesses and members of the public,
etc.; prepares public notices of changes in court procedures.
4. Establishes hard-copy and computerized
filing systems for court records and materials; suggests system changes when
necessary and implements upon approval.
5. Operates national and state computer
terminal to access criminal records; reprints warrants; recommends extension of
time for payment of fines, placing hold on warrants, excusing witnesses, etc.
6. Compiles and analyzes data on court
activities such as disposition of cases, revenue trends, effects of policies;
prepares reports listing results of analysis.
7. Schedules courtroom tours and
presentations by court employees to schools and civic groups; prepares and
presents public service announcements and speeches to civic groups; serves as a
representative of the Municipal Court at meetings.
8. Reviews professional literature and
monitors changes in legislation to ensure proper administration of the court.
9. Ensures the issuance of warrants and
subpoenas.
10. Ensures maintenance of court buildings,
equipment and grounds; contacts Human and General Services or other City
departments to obtain required maintenance.
11. Serves as backup to court clerical staff
as required.
12. Performs other related duties as
required.
SUPERVISORY
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides general supervision to the Probation
Officer-Senior, Court Reporter, and Chief Court Clerk; provides immediate
supervision to the Office Assistant I.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Public
Administration, Criminal Justice, or a related area; at least two (2) years
of experience in criminal justice, court administration, legal office
administration, or a related area; at least one (1) year of supervisory
experience; OR any combination of
experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and
abilities.
