JOB TITLE: Assistant Recreation Supervisor

JOB OBJECTIVE: To plan, organize, and supervise the summer
playground program and special Parks and Recreation events; provide administrative
assistance to Recreation Supervisor and Recreation Programs Manager for
development, operation and maintenance of recreation and athletic programs.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the
Recreation Supervisor (Athletics).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Plans, organizes, and directs special
recreational events and summer playground programs for participants of various
age groups, by arranging for payment and scheduling of facilities, buses,
insurance coverage, and hiring and/or scheduling employees.
2. Organizes and supervises special
recreation events, such as fishing derbies and athletic camps.
3. Prepares and processes Division
part-time, temporary, and contract employee payroll by verifying time sheets,
submitting to payroll for check processing, and distributes checks to
appropriate supervisors for final dispersal.
4. Recruits
sponsors for recreation events.
5. Prepares bid specifications and
requisitions for new summer playground equipment.
6. Writes and updates summer playground
procedure manual for consistent and effective program operation.
7. Directs the activities of the Athletic
Division in the absence of the Recreation Supervisor (Athletics).
8. Monitors and supervises the ball field
reservation system by ensuring fees are collected and deposited, and
reservation schedule is properly maintained.
9. Supervises, monitors performance of,
and assigns activities to part-time, temporary, and contract employees.
10. Assists in the collection of registration
fees for various recreation activities; remits money to City Collector's
Office.
11. Answers questions from the public
regarding recreation programs.
12. Operates a City pool automobile to visit
facilities.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Monitors and reports seasonal and
contractual employee work hours utilized.
2. Monitors and maintains equipment
condition; maintains inventory and issues equipment and supplies for Summer
Playground program.
3. Monitors facility conditions,
identifies necessary repairs, writes work orders and/or contacts appropriate
vendor for facility repairs.
4. Assists Recreation Supervisor and
Recreation Programs Manager by collecting data, preparing regular reports,
tracking recreation trends, and making recommendations for recreation program
changes.
5. Performs
other related duties as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides general supervision to part-time, temporary,
contract, and volunteer staff.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of two (2) years college course work in
Recreation Administration, Parks Administration, Leisure Sciences, Physical
Education or a related field; at least one (1) year of experience in
recreation sports, or a related field; OR
any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the
required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial
Vehicle) Driver’s License before employment and maintain licensure for the
duration of employment in this position.
