JOB TITLE: Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
(Rebsamen)

JOB OBJECTIVE: To provide working supervision to assigned
crew and to ensure golf course grounds, buildings, and equipment are properly
maintained.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the
Golf Course Superintendent.
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintains Bentgrass and Bermuda greens
to include the application of fungicides, herbicides, insecticides and wetting
agents upon approval of supervisor.
2.
Supervises the syringing of all Bentgrass
greens.
3. Supervises and maintains sand bunkers
including applying chemicals and fertilizers for the control of weeds, edging,
raking and replenishing sand.
4. Ensures the good health of golf course
greens by proper aerification, topdressing and verti-cutting as required.
5. Inspects golf course for damage, plant
disease, debris, and proper operation of the sprinkler systems.
6. Assigns tasks and projects to Park Maintenance
Workers; records workers' time and attendance.
7. Assigns and performs maintenance
activities including equipment repair and preventive maintenance, mowing,
course repair, and sprinkler system repair and maintenance.
8. Maintains records of chemicals applied,
fertilizer applied, and fuel usage for department inventory and supplies
control.
9. Mixes and applies chemical herbicides,
pesticides, and growth control agents; assigns application of chemicals to Park
Maintenance Workers.
10. Provides working and technical
information to Park Maintenance Workers.
11. Maintains and updates inventory listing
of equipment and supplies at assigned golf course; requisitions or purchases
needed supplies.
12. Recommends needed golf course
improvements and maintenance procedure changes to the supervisor.
13. Schedules, assigns, and participates in
major course improvements; directs the pruning or removal of dead or damaged
trees.

14. Makes recommendations for new equipment
purchases to the supervisor for the annual budget.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs other related duties as
required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides immediate supervision to
Parks Maintenance Workers - Senior and to full-time and part-time Parks
Maintenance Workers and general supervision to Leader.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of management
of Bentgrass green maintenance.

Considerable knowledge of plant
diseases and destructive insects.
Good knowledge of golf course
maintenance, turf equipment, and supplies.
Good knowledge of the properties,
use, and application of various chemicals, including fertilizers, herbicides,
pesticides, fungicides, and growth control agents.
Good knowledge of environmental
requirements of various types of grasses including Bentgrass, shrubs, and
trees.
Some knowledge of maintenance and
repair of sprinkler and irrigation systems.
Skill in the use of tractor mounted mowing,
chemical spraying equipment and light earth moving equipment.
Skill in the use of hand tools.
Ability to perform manual labor.
Ability to keep detailed records.
Ability to detect plant diseases or damage on
the golf course.
Ability to direct the activities of unskilled
and semi-skilled laborers.
Ability to detect and perform maintenance on
sprinkler systems.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of high school; at least two (2) years of
experience in Golf Course Grounds Maintenance, or a related area; at
least two (2) yearss experience in the maintenance of Bentgrass greens; at
least one (1) year of supervisory experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides
the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial
Vehicle) Driver’s License before employment and maintain licensure for the
duration of employment in this position.
