JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Assistant Fitness Specialist
MAINTENANCE REVIEW DATE: October 1997

JOB OBJECTIVE: To assist in the supervision of physical
fitness programs.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the
Fitness Specialist.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Assigns and supervises the work
activities of part-time fitness trainers.
2. Tests fitness equipment to ensure it is
safe and functioning properly.
3. Develops individual fitness plans for
members based on their specific needs; evaluates the effectiveness of each
individual's plan.
4. Teaches, or recommends the hiring of
outside instructors to teach gymnastics, aerobics, and other fitness programs.
5. Coordinates and supervises special
demonstrations, classes and events.
6. Conducts in-house training and
workshops for part-time fitness center staff.
7. Serves as backup to the Fitness
Specialist.
SECONDARY
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops schedules and accepts
reservations for participation in fitness programs; maintains participant
rosters.
2. Performs other related duties as
required.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs work of average difficulty
in assisting in the supervision of physical fitness programs.

fitness trainers.
Tests fitness equipment to ensure it is safe and functioning
properly.
Develops individual fitness plans for members based on their

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of physical
fitness programs, including weight-lifting and aerobics.
Good knowledge of the maintenance
requirements for physical fitness equipment.
Skill in the operation and maintenance of
physical fitness equipment.
Ability to develop and implement physical
fitness programs.
Ability to assign and review the work activities
of part-time fitness trainers.
Ability to test physical fitness equipment to
ensure it is safe and functioning properly.
Ability to develop and maintain schedules for
physical fitness events.
Ability to coordinate and supervise special
demonstrations, classes and events.

JOB SPECIFICATION - CONTINUED
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of two (2) years of college course work in
Recreation Administration, Physical Education, or a related area; at least
one (1) year of experience in developing and conducting various physical
fitness training programs; OR any
equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required
knowledge, skills, and abilities.
