Plans and ensures implementation of a safe and efficient traffic control system for the City of Little Rock.

SALARY:  $33,194 - $49,791 (TE I)

                 $42,109 - $63,164 (TE II)

AVAILABLE POSITIONS: 1

GRADE:  869 / 871     

 

This position is full-time but not eligible for overtime.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  (For both TE I and TE II – not a complete listing.)  Plans and designs all components of a traffic control system required to safely and efficiently accommodate current and projected traffic patterns and volumes.  Analyzes data related to traffic flow, number of accidents and proposed developments to determine the most efficient methods to expedite traffic flow.  Reviews site plans of proposed subdivisions, construction projects and other developments to determine the effect on the traffic system; notifies developers of changes in plans required to comply with ordinances and master plans.  Analyzes the effects of proposed developments on the traffic system; provides information on methods of correcting potential impacts on the traffic system.  Visits areas of proposed developments, proposed changes in the traffic system or unusual traffic control problems as required to become familiar with the characteristics of the affected area and to determine the most efficient method of traffic control.  Designs components of the traffic system including configuration of new and existing intersections, type of control devices, and timing and placement of control devices.  Prepares work orders for repair, maintenance, and changes in the traffic system which require no budget adjustment.  Recommends measures for correcting problems or improving the efficiency of the traffic system which require budget consideration.  Reviews traffic control/barricade plans for all work done in the public right-of-way; establishes procedures, schedules and corrective actions for street closure, and for repair or construction projects.  Receives, investigates, and responds to citizens' questions and complaints regarding the traffic control system; provides information to citizens, engineers, developers, and civic organizations regarding traffic control ordinances and plans.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR TRAFFIC ENGINEER I:

 

·         Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Traffic Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related area.

·         One year of experience as a Traffic Engineer Trainee in Traffic or Civil Engineering.

·         Must possess registration as an Engineer Intern (EI) before employment.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR TRAFFIC ENGINEER II:

·         Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Traffic Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related area.

·         Four years of experience at the level of Traffic Engineer I.

·         Two years of supervisory experience.

·         Must possess registration as an Professional Engineer (PE) before employment.
